Your most troubling thoughts, beliefs, and feelings…
Pulled in so many directions… many days, it seems like you’re just going through the motions while dealing with day-to-day issues.
You try to push away the negative beliefs and calm the racing thoughts, which affect how you feel about yourself and disrupt your day. Sometimes you’re irritable and even angry. Worrying about your parents, your children, your job, the future.
You would like to sleep better at night, but it isn’t easy due to everything on your mind. Lack of sleep makes waking hours even more difficult.
Is this anxiety or depression?
What if it is something else?
Why do I feel this way?
Is this normal?
Why am I so angry, sad, on edge?
You just want to relax, slow down, feel normal.
You genuinely want to enjoy the moments in life.
You want to be truly engaged in the relationships in your life.
You want to feel whole again.
But something seems to be missing. You want to understand how you ended up here and how to move forward. You think, “things were fine until…”.
Or maybe you can’t put your finger on that time. You know you need… something.
You are considering taking a much-needed step into the realm of therapy.
I help women who struggle with these issues that keep them from living a life of fulfillment and purpose.
We can explore the origins of your thoughts and feelings. These may be related to a challenging past. Or maybe the current global situation has affected your mental health more than you’d expected.
I would love to help you discover origins and solutions to the negative thoughts and feelings holding you back from a living life you can fully enjoy.
These challenges are not only specific to women. I also provide individual sessions with men and teen girls.
You’re entering a safe, relaxed environment.
This is true regardless of whether you’re attending a virtual or an in-person session with me.
For virtual sessions, we will have a kind exchange and make sure you are settled in, in a private room of your home, and that we can both see and hear each other effectively.
On my end, my virtual office is a private room in my home. I lock the door during the session, assuring your privacy. It is a neutral yet calm reflection of my style.
When in the office, I will introduce myself, welcome you verbally, and engage with you candidly as I usher you to a comfy couch with fluffy pillows. You are welcome to rearrange or hold any of the pillows while we converse.
In either type of session, I engage you in a normal conversation. Depending on how it’s going, I may even try to get a smile or laugh from you as we start.
I will explain processes as we go, and yes, I will ask you a ton of questions! Some of your answers will already be on the forms you filled out, but I will add some of my own. Why? So, I can get to know you better. If you have questions that haven’t been answered, I will be happy to answer them.
My goal is to help you feel comfortable and relaxed. And even though I will have questions, I will not be interrogating you. It will be very conversational.
You will come in to have a meaningful conversation about your concerns. It is totally up to you whether you want to disclose the most intimate nuances of how you’re feeling during this session. You may not be ready to talk about them yet to anyone, and that is okay. We’ll get there.
From day one, we will start building our therapeutic alliance.
We build this through authentic caring, connection, and even humor. Therapy is some serious stuff; however, humor has its place there, too. It allows us to be more relaxed, reduces stress, and helps us form a bond.
The therapeutic alliance is one in which we are building from day one. It is a trusting therapeutic relationship in which I come alongside you to understand your deepest feelings and help you find a way to work through them using various therapeutic interventions. This trusting relationship begins with empathic listening. I will do that.
Not only do I want to hear you, but I also want to understand exactly where you’re coming from. For you, it’s about finding the right person with whom to share, feeling a connection, feeling like the person you’re talking with is a trustworthy ally, and you are finally ready to let your guard down without feeling insecure.
As our bond grows, it allows you to share more. We are forming a bond, agreeing on goals, and you are treated with unconditional positive regard. The forming of this bond is the main therapy tool, helping you achieve positive change in your life. Many studies show this collaboration between therapist and client correlates with the client’s positive progress in therapy.
Forging a true connection…
As I listen, I try to find even the tiniest openings in which to connect with you in a session. You’ll find that I am really paying attention and seeking to understand fully where you are coming from. You will feel respected and genuinely valued here.
As we build our therapeutic relationship, you will become more and more open to sharing your story. As this unfolds, the course of your therapy begins.
You will be a part of the decision-making process: what you’d like to explore further, what you’d like to work on first, and so on. Sometimes you will be challenged and feel somewhat uncomfortable with making necessary changes, but, at the same time, you will be safe and feel supported throughout.
This will not be “one size fits all” therapy.
We will employ various techniques tailored to your specific needs. We will process incidents that concern you, feelings you wrestle with, and other thoughts and beliefs that render you anxious or depressed. As these come to the forefront in session, you will gain insight on each concern you process, lifting the weight you felt before coming to sessions.
Benefits you will gain from counseling include less anxiety, gaining more emotional balance, stress relief, trauma resolution, and improved self-confidence… just to name a few.
As you gain more clarity, you will learn and use new tools, develop new skills, and adapt strategies to help manage your emotions, change your beliefs, and gain a more positive sense of self. Each week you may have therapeutic “homework,” which will include practicing and using those tools and skills.
As you do this work, changes will happen, leading you to where you want to be. Then you can finally let go of issues holding you back from the life you desire and deserve.
About Me
Craving a new way of life? We’re a great fit to work together…
I understand what it is like to struggle with anxieties and challenges and persevered on my personal healing journey.
My life has not been without personal challenges. Like you, my path has had its difficulties. I have fallen victim to overwhelming anxiety. While moving up a professional ladder, I have felt insecure about my abilities and had low self-esteem.
At times, I needed to recognize destructive habits or relationships in my life. In these times, I knew I needed an objective person who could help me sort out life and help me feel whole again. Long journey, but I persevered.
Along with professional expertise and being a compassionate listener, I have a great deal of personal experience to draw on.
I have had struggles in my own life. Some of which influenced me on my journey to help others with their struggles. After a seemingly perfect upbringing, some tumultuous teen years, later sowing too many wild oats, making what I call “ineffective choices,” falling into self-deprecating habits, and let’s not talk about unhealthy and failed relationships – uou name it, been there done that, could’ve written the book… therapy helped!
I’ve often wished that I could go back and do things over, but I can’t. I now see how those experiences had a purpose in my life. They’ve given me a world of experience to draw on. I recently saw a quote on my Facebook feed, and it rang true, so I’m going to steal it here: “God pulled you out of the pit so you could go back in and get more people out. Never forget that.”
I can connect with people quickly and put them at ease.
I like the adage that the eyes are the window to the soul. Because of that, I really do like to make eye contact with people, so I do. I’ve found it draws me closer to people and helps me be approachable, which is immensely helpful in a therapeutic situation!
Some people I know have teased me about it. They say that random people talk to me because I make eye contact with them, suggesting that it is not a good thing. I am not in agreement! Making eye contact with people helps me build an immediate connection, which I want to do.
Education and training…
I am a master’s level Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) providing psychotherapy under the Department of Health in Florida.
I am also a Certified Clinical Telemental Health Provider, Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional, and a State Qualified Supervisor for LMHC interns.
I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and am currently working toward my certification.
My style is very person-centered yet eclectic because I have a large variety of therapeutic interests. Our sessions may include EMDR, mindfulness, Christian-based, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, therapeutic art, or other therapeutic interventions, depending on your needs.
When I’m not doing therapy…
At home, I can be found encouraging and supporting my teenage daughter’s goals from afar, as she has just left the nest for college!
Thank goodness, my husband and I always have DIY projects! I enjoy design and decorating my home.
I love hanging out with family and friends, going to church, playing the piano, drawing, reading, painting, and cleaning the house (yes, really! The results are satisfying… even if they don’t last long!).
I look forward to working with you!
I’ll show empathic interest in your life, and you’ll get that from our first meeting. You’ll know that I am invested in your emotional recovery and will be a vigorous advocate for your success in therapy and your life.
